Thanks for dropping by, Annette. Glad you liked the article. Boise has areas of sandy soil too, as well as areas of heavy clay. So, we understand your challenges. Hope to see you again, and best of luck this gardening season. Teresa

Your gardening demands are so different from our deep, sandy, loose soil which quickly leaches out nutrients. Although we have ample water supply, gardening can be a challenge as the soil just can’t hold moisture that long. I’ll remember your info however in case I move to Boise in a year or so. Very informative interview, thanks.

Mary Ann is a great gardener and a helpful friend. She's also a great resource for all things gardening, especially if you live in arid Idaho.~~Dee

Thanks for bringing them up. Meanwhile, you have my admiration for withstanding the winters in Northern Idaho. Congratulations!

From the far north of Idaho I will weigh in with some minor variations…we also have very shallow soils…but a bit more moisture and far more chill.

Some zone 5 plants that thrive in Boise area will not tolerate our northern winters. The difference in N vs. S Idaho is extreme…almost should be separate states!
