All eyes turned to London recently for the 2013 Chelsea Flower Show, May 21-25. Celebrating its centennial this year, the world-renowned flower show featured exciting new plants – and old-fashioned favorites – to provide an eye-opening look at how gardening styles have changed over the last 100 years.

One of these days, Seasonal Wisdom will attend the annual Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show in London. It’s my dream to revisit this delightful city and enjoy the best of England’s gardening traditions.  After all, this is one of the most important garden shows in the world.

But until that day occurs, you’ll need to settle for photos from those folks who were lucky enough to attend this ground-breaking gardening event. (Click on photos to make larger images.)

Naturalistic Gardens

A few trends stood out during the 2013 Chelsea Flower Show.

One was the many naturalistic gardens, wildflowers and cottage style beds, which seemed to dominate the various demonstration gardens in a stunning way.

“Some of the gardening world’s most design-savvy and fashionable people strut their stuff at the Chelsea Flower Show,” writes Feaster.  And “dramatic sculptural forms are a frequent motif.”
