I enjoy hanging fresh greens on the front door, well, all of my doors. I’m allergic to live trees at Christmas so having door wreaths gives me my fresh greens fix without allergic reactions to having them in the house for the entire season.

Seasonal Wisdom November 13, 2012 at 2:31 pm

This wreath sounds like a good solution for you! Thanks for entering the drawing, and good luck. Teresa

I had a 200 year old home for over 10 years and always decorated in the old fashioned way of fresh evergreens and fruits, very simple yet so very elegant and such a delightful aroma. I now have a condo and I decorate it in the same manner, it just wouldn’t be Christmas at my home without nature’s wonderful decorations of greens, berries, nuts and fruits. I can close my front door and just like magic it could be 200 years ago again. What a wonderful respite in todays hectic world. It is indeed a “wonderful life”.

Seasonal Wisdom November 13, 2012 at 2:31 pm

Delaine: What a wonderful story. I can just picture how pretty your condo must look during the holidays. Thanks for sharing, and good luck in this random drawing. Teresa

Lee Stadler November 13, 2012 at 2:02 pm

The smell!!!!! I love the smell!! We now have a 12 foot artificial tree. Had to make a concession to age and it’s not as easy to find the money for a real one these days but I so miss the smell…so bringing in some fresh greens helps to compensate.

Seasonal Wisdom November 13, 2012 at 2:33 pm

Lee: That’s a great idea. Evergreen centerpieces and other decorations also bring the same feeling and aroma to a home. Good luck!

Backyard Wisdom November 13, 2012 at 2:03 pm

I love using fresh greens to decorate because they really part of the holiday to me. Many Christmas memories are linked to fresh greens. Cedar reminds me of the trees we would cut when I was a child for our Christmas tree. Holly reminds me of making decorations with my mama and the holly trees her family decorated for South Alabama Christmas seasons. Wax myrtle reminds me of candles burning on the holiday table and rosemary reminds me of all the good food that my mama would make every year.

Seasonal Wisdom November 13, 2012 at 2:34 pm

Oh, I love all those memories linked to various plants. Isn’t it wonderful how a certain aroma can transport you back in time? Thanks for entering. Good luck! Teresa

snowybwm November 13, 2012 at 2:16 pm

Having grown up in Maine, there simply is no substitute for the aroma and appearance of fresh evergreen boughs. It is simply not Christmas without them! A wreath is a classic and beautiful necessity for any door – has to be real greens!

Seasonal Wisdom November 13, 2012 at 2:35 pm

Here’s wishing you the best of luck in this random drawing. Thanks for visiting, snowybwm! Teresa

There is nothing like the smell of fresh greenery during the holidays to bring back memories. My mother used to hang a fresh green wreath over every front window and on the front door. When I was growing up, the tree was fresh as well, and the house would smell like pine for weeks. It is a part of the holidays that I always enjoyed, and to smell pine at this time of the year always transports me back to those days when life was simpler somehow.

Erin @ The Impatient Gardener November 13, 2012 at 3:50 pm

I’ve never even contemplated NOT having fresh evergreens everywhere I can put them during the holidays. They are the very definition of holiday decorating in my mind. I put up at least five wreaths (including a 40-inch one over the fireplace) every year and I wouldn’t be without them.

Asana Draper November 13, 2012 at 3:56 pm

I LOVE putting fresh evergreens on my front door and in my home. Not only is it much prettier than the fake stuff, but the smell is fantastic and really gets me in the holiday mood.

Seasonal Wisdom November 13, 2012 at 3:57 pm

Yes, Asana! The smell of evergreens gets me in the holiday spirit too. Good luck. Teresa

Seasonal Wisdom November 13, 2012 at 3:56 pm

Martha and Erin: Thanks for sharing your wonderful stories about evergreens. I agree! It’s hard to imagine the holidays without fresh boughs of fir, pine and cedar. Good luck in the drawing. Teresa

Lisa D. November 13, 2012 at 4:09 pm

I love the aroma of fresh evergreen in the house during the holidays. Just add a crackling fire to melt away the stress of the season and bring the focus back to home and family. Thanks for this opportunity!

Diana Featherstone November 13, 2012 at 4:35 pm

I love the aroma of evergreens!! I don’t really care for candles, so until we get our Christmas tree I would love to have a beautiful wreath to put on my front door to enjoy!!

Lisa Deutsch November 13, 2012 at 4:39 pm

I love the clean fresh smell! I love using nature to decorate with.

Tim November 13, 2012 at 6:28 pm

Christmas at our house when I was growing up was always festive. My mother loved Christmas and the first snow. On the front door she had the wreath that showed that we were ready for all the wonder and excitement; a real wreath because nothing about the Spirit of Christmas was fake. I think the wreath was a witness to the Life that continues to blossom even in the coldest weather of the year. When I see a real wreath I think of my mother and father. I remember how they made Christmas something to celebrate because of the real meaning of Christmas. They may have left now, but they come alive again every November to usher in the Season of Joy. The wreath is their witness to the season.

faith brook November 13, 2012 at 6:57 pm

true greenery cannot be replicated in texture or fragrance. i like using real wreaths on the front door to greet holiday visitors with the aroma that brings back memories of bygone days of youth and family. i also like adding them to the artficial garlands over my mantel and in my chandalier. for this i use sprigs of greenery leftovers from commercial tree sales at local stores.

Cecile Wood-LeGuillon November 13, 2012 at 7:30 pm

Sweet memories from Moms house at Christmas always included fresh cuttings of evergreens and holly. The fresh smell takes me back to a comfortable time. I like to take trimmings from outside and decorate my
holiday table and mantle with the beauty from outdoors. Adding ribbons and vintage ornaments is all you need for a lovely festive look. The fragrance is sublime. I also add branch trimmings to the chicken and dove coup so they can enjoy them as well. Happy Holidays !

Julie November 13, 2012 at 7:39 pm

It reminds me of my childhood. The aroma was intoxicating. My mother decorated the mantle with evergreen boughs and the Children’s Home sold wreaths that always decorated our front door. My father bought live trees so we could plant them and enjoy them year round. My mother would decorate it for the birds once planted outside.

Susie Johnson November 13, 2012 at 8:52 pm

Always prefer the real thing! Nothing like the smell of fresh evergreen to embody the spirit of Xmas, and keeping a tradition alive. Have even picked out a tree on a Xmas tree farm, cut it down, and brought it back home on the top of the car!

Beverly Pfaffinger November 13, 2012 at 9:59 pm

Thanks for the opportunity to be selected to receive one of your beautiful wreaths! The wreath is a traditional holiday symbol and my memories take me way back to my childhood! I always helped my mother decorate indoors and outdoors. The greens were always real and the fragrance was breath taking as we decorated mirrors and the mantle! Our tree was real too, and the house was always filled with the wonderful aroma! I have continued this tradition in my home for many years as well! I would be very pleased and proud to have your wreath on my front door this year! Once again, thank you and Happy Holidays to everyone at Seasonal Wisdom!

Mary Gregory November 14, 2012 at 4:56 am

The sense of smell brings back more memories than any of the other senses. The great memories of a very happy childhood spent in the beautiful state of Montana where we would go into the forest and chop down our tree, tie it onto the top of the families 57 Chevy and bring it home to decorate with bubble lights and blown glass ornaments passed down from previous generations. We were all rather poor but certainly didn’t know it. Such happy and innocent times. Thank you Seasonal Wisdom for the opportunity to win this lovely wreath. Happy Holidays!

Robin Horton / Urban Gardens November 14, 2012 at 7:04 am

Hands down, it’s the seasonal scent. Makes one think instantly of the holidays. Pair it with cinnamon and other spices…can smell it now.

Mary Ellen Kundrat November 14, 2012 at 8:00 am

I love decorating with seasonal everything, but most especially at this time of year. The scent is always so evocative of my childhood and yet makes each day feel fresh. It’s more important than ever this year. We need both memory and hope to bring us through our recovery from Hurricane Sandy here on Long Island.

Christine November 14, 2012 at 9:20 am

I love the bright colors of Christmas.

Lee Romano Sequeira November 14, 2012 at 9:50 am

WOW! I can “smell” Christmas is on its way, just by reading this post. There’s nothing like a trip down my memory lane when I can stop and smell the evergreens!

Wreaths and beautifully decorated trees remind me of my childhood indeed, but as an adult I still get giddy just knowing that Santa is on his way :)

Have a very merry!

Such a beautiful wreath. I’d put it on my mantle.

Craig November 14, 2012 at 10:10 am

Definitely the aroma. Brings back childhood memories of trapseing through the woods to find a cedar tree for our Christmas tree & running cedar and other greenery to decorate the house.

Nancy Wheat November 14, 2012 at 10:49 am

The smell and the traditional look of evergreen wreaths & garland is one of my favorite parts of the holiday season!

Seasonal Wisdom November 14, 2012 at 10:51 am

Wow, everyone! Thanks a million for sharing these wonderful memories. I can almost smell the fresh cedar, pine and fir trees from your stories. You’ve brought alive so many heartwarming moments that we all can share around this dark time of year. As many of you mentioned, it doesn’t cost much to make important memories that will live with us for decades. Sometimes all you need is a bit of fresh greenery to bring a little holiday spirit into your winter home! The world may look gray outside at this time of year, but nature is still alive and growing. Even if we can’t see it … Good luck to everyone in this random drawing, and thanks again for your comments. xox Teresa

Cyndia Montgomery November 15, 2012 at 4:40 pm

As a gardener, one of the ways I satisfy my gardening urges is to bring the bounty of the season inside. I clip yew, juniper, holly, and magnolia, arranging it in galvanized buckets and containers all thru the house so I can enjoy the fragrance. It makes me feel quite festive!

Jennie Brooks November 15, 2012 at 5:43 pm

I love fresh wreaths bc I don’t normally put up a tree. I decorate many other ways though. I also help put up a tree at my mother’s.

Stacy November 15, 2012 at 10:12 pm

I enjoy using fresh greens for winter and Christmas decorating because of the fragrance and because it makes me feel like I’m living in a cabin in the woods even though I don’t. They are a simple but beautiful part of creation that I enjoy immensely.

Debby November 15, 2012 at 11:51 pm

I would love a fresh wreath. The fragrance is the part I love.

Paula Diekhoff November 16, 2012 at 11:35 am

I love the smell of fresh evergreens and it reminds me of the boughs my mom used to place on the hutch every holiday season. No matter what the stress, the aroma of holiday wreaths and boughs brings me a sense of peace and joy.

Jennifer Essad November 16, 2012 at 1:34 pm

Having moved from Michigan where we would walk the Christmas Tree Farms for that perfect tree, I miss the opportunity and the beautiful live trees, garland and wreaths we could decorate with. Here in Sunny Florida the aroma would bring such wonderful memories!

Lynn McEntire November 16, 2012 at 1:34 pm

I love the color in my home and the smell of cedar, pine what ever I choose to use.

Arnell November 16, 2012 at 1:37 pm

I love decorating for the holidays, and a beautiful evergreen wreath would just set the mood with its aromatic fragrance, simplicity, and natural beauty.

Connie November 16, 2012 at 1:39 pm

It just doesn’t seem like Christmas in the house
Without fresh greenery . A live Christmas tree
Or wreaths or garlands made out of pine, cedar
Etc made for the season . The smell if it reminds
Me of my grandmothers house where it would
Always smell from fresh pine and food through out
The house . That is what Christmas smells like
To me and I do it for my family to give them
Cozy memories of fresh pine and good food !
There is something do soothing about the evergreen
That just takes the worry of the day away and
Replaces it with a warm fuzzy feeling .

Sandy November 16, 2012 at 1:40 pm

A fresh cut wreath is a instant smell vacation. Thank you for a chance to win one!

pat m November 16, 2012 at 1:41 pm

nothing more beautiful then decorating with fresh greens for the holidays,i love filling the home with the wonderful scents,it completes the holiday

Terry Herman November 16, 2012 at 1:41 pm

Decorating with greens at Christmas is a beautiful reminder of nature and the seasons that have ended; the greens renew the element of spring and summer with living matter, while it’s fragrance reminds us it’s winter.

Renee Shirley November 16, 2012 at 1:41 pm

I just love the smell of fresh evergreens! Christmas is my favorite time of the year and the aroma just makes my home fresh …

Deanne Spuhl November 16, 2012 at 1:46 pm

I love the fragrance of the evergreens in the home. It’s such a comforting aroma. Plus when you decorate with evergreens you don’t have to take them down after Christmas so you can enjoy them all winter long!

Joyce November 16, 2012 at 1:57 pm

Living in the northeast corner of the United States, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without the aroma of fresh cut evergreens. Earthy, sweet and warm coziness all rolled up in one. As children we were sent outdoors to gather what we could, returning home and given ribbon to attach to the evergreens, then we hung these from each Window in our home. Loved it!

Debbie Kendall November 16, 2012 at 2:00 pm

Love bringing the fresh cuttings from the outside into the home for the holidays. My family & friends always enjoy them as well!
Looking forward to winning!!

Abby Lea November 16, 2012 at 2:02 pm

I love the fresh smell of real greenery! It makes the house feel so much more in the holiday spirit!

Joyce November 16, 2012 at 2:07 pm

As a child or an adult, somethings never change, we still decorate our windows this way!

Nancy November 16, 2012 at 2:20 pm

Evergreens smell so Christmas-y…and green with red complement each other.

Mary Curtis November 16, 2012 at 2:23 pm

I enjoy the chances to win plus the flat out fun of playing. You are really good people to do this. My word i can smell the branches in the wreaths already.

Virginia November 16, 2012 at 3:26 pm

Using fresh greanery smells like our Christmas tree when I was young

Julie November 16, 2012 at 4:04 pm

The smell of fresh pine is a part of Christmas–I’ll never have an artificial tree, no matter how often I have to hunch over to water it, getting needles in my hair. Thanks so much for this lovely giveaway–good luck and happy holidays to all!

Carol Yemola November 16, 2012 at 4:37 pm

There is nothing that screams the Christmas season like the smell of freshly cut pine! I love bringing a little bit of the outdoors inside during the season and the added benefit of the fantastic pine smell is the cherry on top!

Robin Robinson November 17, 2012 at 12:33 am

Georgia Popp November 17, 2012 at 8:43 am

The smell of fresh cut evergreens and juniper has always filled our home around the holidays. It was Christmas 1977, and I broke my arm in the school playground. I remember the geneoristy of the nurses and doctors who took care of me until my parents arrived at the hospital. I had to wear a cast and sling and was in a lot of pain that Christmas. My parents brought home a beautiful, fresh cut noble fir to cheer me up. I remember the smell of the sap filling our home with its perfume. My sister, and I were lucky, little girls. It’s still my fondest memory of Christmas. Every year since, we’ve decorated the house with evergreens to capture a bit of that nostalgia. Merry Christmas!!

Crystal S November 17, 2012 at 9:21 am

I just LOVE the scent of pine and also cinnamon for the holidays!! <3

Jesse M November 17, 2012 at 9:21 am

Beautiful wreath! I enjoy decorating with evergreens for pretty much all of those reasons, the smell is wonderful, and I love the look of the greenery and natural decorations vs. decorations that are all plastic and fake! Thanks for the chance at this wonderful giveaway!

Patti November 17, 2012 at 9:28 am

This year is going to be different. I was divorced a few years ago and holidays have been very difficult. The kids spend the holidays with their grandmother so I’ve been alone on most of them. But, a couple years ago I met a wonderful man and we started dating this year. He has no family here, either. So, my goal is to make the holidays special for him and all our friends who live here with no family. We’re having an “Orphans Thanksgiving” and will do the same for Christmas. I’m actually excited to go cut down our tree and decorate this house! Thanks for the opportunity to win a beautiful wreath!

Hudson Highlands Garden Design November 17, 2012 at 9:34 am

It just wouldn’t be Christmas without yards and yards of fresh roping. Small painted nails aren’t noticed on the inside top of the tray ceiling in the dining area. The hidden nails catch the roping and creates the dipping “scallops.” This room is central to the ranch condo so the scent and beauty is truly `tis the season.” After New Years, we cut and string it on outdoor benches and add pinecones rolled in peanut butter & bird seed!

paula nelson November 17, 2012 at 9:45 am

how does it get any better than this? sacred geometry on my door, fresh picked greens from my beautiful friends the ever green trees, nature, nourishing, nurturing, regenerating for all those passerbys, all those who choose to stop and knock on my door, those who invite themselves to enter the welcoming door of my humble shanty by the sea…cacao & ever greens reflecting the circle of life in all realms. this is truly thriving sexualness~magic me. sexualness is nature, nurturing, regeneration. the magic is awareness, consciousness of the gift of life in each moment..me is being me as i truly be…all from a wreath on my door or wall (which i leave up for a long long time), a wreath of twigs, nature, messages of trees, mushrooms, cacao all make lovely teas….my beautiful friends surround me because of this wreath which i created by beautiful friends, harvested by beautiful friends, all of the trees, twigs, mushrooms, cacao are beautiful friends and on it goes…now, i ask you, what else is possible?

Pam Ferry November 17, 2012 at 9:46 am

I love the smell of fresh greens and having something green and alive in my home for the winter

Denise Fedor November 17, 2012 at 9:47 am

Fresh is SO WONDERFULL! i LOVE the smell.

Rosarito November 17, 2012 at 10:26 am

I love the fresh scent. It wouldn’t be Christmas without it.

Tara D November 17, 2012 at 11:09 am

Definitely, it is the wonderful evergreen scent!

Kimberlee November 17, 2012 at 11:49 am

I love coming home, and hitting the wall of smell that fresh evergreens provide. No matter where I am, I have to have some small piece of real greenery. As a kid, my parents went to an artificial tabletop tree when my brothers and sister moved out. I just find that real greens make it actually feel like the holidays. A year ago, I took my first ER job in another state – even though I was alone for the holiday, my husband left me a little live tree when he went back home after moving me. This year we are all together again. I would love a real wreath for the door to welcome all of us home everyday!

K Grimm November 17, 2012 at 1:03 pm

Beautiful wreath. Love decorating for the color and fragrance. Feels so “homey!”

Erika November 17, 2012 at 1:43 pm

Christmas wreaths are my reminder of home during the Holidays. The family wreath is the epitome of my family home and now living across the country, having a beautiful wreath hanging in my living room sends me right back home.
