Win Raised Garden Bed Kit and Planting Kit!

by Seasonal Wisdom on April 8, 2011

Post image for Win Raised Garden Bed Kit and Planting Kit!

Raised garden beds are a great way to grow flowers and vegetables. These beds warm up faster in the spring, and remain productive longer in the fall.  Soil drainage is better in raised beds too. And it’s easier to improve and customize your soil quality in raised beds as well.

That’s why Seasonal Wisdom is delighted to give away a raised garden kit from Greenland Gardener today — as well as a planting kit with seeds and instructions too!

You can grow all types of annuals, perennials, herbs and vegetables with the Greenland Gardener raised garden kit. In fact, you might want to place several kits together to create an attractive and efficient garden space, as this homeowner did in the above photo.

These raised beds are made of composite plastic, comprised of recycled materials like wood waste, plastic shavings and recycled plastics. Each raised garden kit saves 22 lbs. of waste material from going to landfills.

Manufactured in Greenland, Arkansas, these raised beds can stand up to cold temperatures without shattering. Unlike wooden beds, these beds won’t rot over time either. Best of all, these raised gardens are very easy to set up.  Forget measuring and sawing wood.  You can assemble these raised beds typically in a few minutes. (It’s a good idea to cover the ground with wet cardboard before applying soil to these raised beds to help keep down the weeds.)

Win this Prize!

This last Spring Fling Garden Giveaway prize includes:

One Greenland Gardener Double Raised Garden Kit, which can be planted with annual, perennials, vegetables, herbs and more. Suggested retail price: $39.99.

One Greenland Gardener Planting Kit, complete with:

  • Planting mat diagrams that double as weed control; 10 fabric pins to hold down matting.
  • Salsa garden seeds (tomatillo, jalapeno pepper, basil, cilantro, parsley, serrano pepper, onions and tomatoes)
  • Vegetable garden seeds (cucumber, eggplant, crookneck squash, bush beans, yellow tomato, sweet bell pepper, red tomato and zucchini)
  • Planting instructions

Suggested retail price: $9.99.

How to Enter: Leave a comment and tell us whether you’d use this raised bed for edibles, ornamentals or both together. That’s all you need to do! But hurry … this giveaway ends tonight (April 8, 2011) at midnight PT. Please note: this random drawing is open to U.S. and Canadian gardeners. Don’t forget to leave a way for me to contact you. Good luck!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 7:09 am

Lorraine, Good luck. It’s a lovely raised bed kit. Thanks for entering!

Shara Anderson April 8, 2011 at 7:06 am

Oh man, I would love this! I would probably have mostly edibles (especially herbs), but I think a few ornamentals to attract bees and butterflies would look great! What a great give-away!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 7:11 am

Shara: Good luck! I love your idea of mixing a few ornamentals with your herbs. They do help attract pollinators, and they add beauty too. Thanks for entering this random drawing.

Mary Ellen April 8, 2011 at 7:17 am

Wow. That’s a great price for a raised bed kit! I’ve been trying my hand at all edibles the past few years. This growing season I’m going to do a combo of ornamentals and edibles. More cut flowers!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 7:24 am

Hi Mary Ellen: It is an excellent value; many are well over $100. I’m with you … more flowers (and edibles, and ….) 😉 Good luck!

Diana Goings April 8, 2011 at 7:18 am

What a great looking product and I like that it is made from recyled material! Just what I need!

I would grow a ring of strawberries around the edge then fill the middle with rosette shaped vegetables, like cabbages or cauliflowers. There are some really pretty colored cauliflowers now (purple, yellow, white) :)

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 7:23 am

That sounds super, Diana. I love all those colored cauliflowers, and they are so healthy! Good luck and thanks for entering.

caroline April 8, 2011 at 7:18 am

Seeing as I have so many ornamental and edibles beds already, I would gift this to my wonderful neighbors. With four kids and one rowdy husky, the non-edged beds they did have were torn to bits… this would allow them and their kids to plant whatever their little hearts fancy in a less-likely-to-be-destroyed way. Good luck to all that comment!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 7:22 am

Thanks Caroline. It’s great to get kids started with gardening. Good luck in this random drawing!

Molly Ochoa April 8, 2011 at 7:23 am

How fun! My kids have been begging me to start a garden and this would be perfect! They love veggies & herb so that would probably be planted but some edible and beneficial flowers would be added as well! We are just learning so this would be a blast to win! Thank you!!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 7:26 am

Hi Molly: So glad you want to garden with your kids. They will never forget the lessons you teach them now. Best of all, this kit is very easy to build. Good luck!

Karen April 8, 2011 at 7:24 am

I would set up a teaching bed for my neices in my community garden plot just for them to have their very “own” garden. I would choose veggies and flowers that grow quickly so they stay interested in the process!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 7:25 am

Karen: That’s a wonderful idea. Good luck in this random drawing!!!

SaLLy April 8, 2011 at 7:26 am

We want to do our first-ever raised bed this year, for edibles and we’ve been told to add ornamentals throughout. I’m sprouting marigolds for the first time and am so excited to see little teeny sprouts popping up! YaY!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 8:13 am

Sally, that sounds great! Good luck to you.

Linda Montgomery April 8, 2011 at 7:31 am

Oh I want this!

I am gardening for the first time this year. I will be planting vegetables and herbs.

I can hardly wait!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 8:12 am

Linda: Do it! Once you start growing veggies and herbs, you’ll never regret it. Good luck in this giveaway and thanks for stopping by.

Holly Ward April 8, 2011 at 7:38 am

I would use mine for herbs and veggies to freeze, etc. I am currently on a medical leave from work with a back injury. I am a nurse and have gardened since I was small although have been anxious as to how I would be able to nurture my vegetables and get my therapy from putting my hands in the soil. A raised bed would surely be the answer. I just love to see your pictures that you post. Thank you.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 8:12 am

Holly: Thanks for the nice words about the blog, and sorry to hear about your back injury. Hope you heal quickly. And best of luck in this giveaway. Hope to see you again.

Diana K April 8, 2011 at 7:41 am

I’d definitely use this for vegetable gardening! We have horrible clay soil, so raised beds would be the only way I’d be able to get a successful crop of vegetables to feed my family with.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 8:11 am

Good thinking, Diana. Raised beds are a good way for you to go. Thanks for entering … and good luck in this random drawing!

Penny April 8, 2011 at 7:49 am

I would definitely use this raised bed kit for edibles. Would love to have this in my decomposed granite yard!

Penny April 8, 2011 at 7:53 am

This whole giveaway would be such a Blessing to me as I live on a huge decomposed granite boulder and barely anything grows here! I would love to win all!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 8:10 am

Penny: I hear you! Thank goodness so many raised bed kits are making it possible for folks like you to grow edibles. Good luck in this random drawing!

Mary Callahan April 8, 2011 at 8:00 am

I would love an edible bed! My intentions are good in this regard, I just haven’t made a bed myself and need a jump start. Thanks for the opportunity.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 8:09 am

Mary: Congrats on starting to grow edibles. You won’t regret it. And good luck in this random drawing.

Lee Ann Darnell April 8, 2011 at 8:06 am

This would be an amazing prize for me! I have wanted to try raised bed gardening but every year something happens to take the money I have set aside for this. This year my parents have had to move in with us and we are going to plant an edible garden this year to try and save money!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 8:09 am

Lee Ann: Good luck with your garden … and with the giveaway. Thanks for entering!

Stacey April 8, 2011 at 8:10 am

STRAWBERRIES!!!!
This would be a perfect kit for my neice and nephews for their yard! They love strawberries and I have a friend that is overrun. Kit for free, strawberries for free… seeing their faces when eating something that they love and actually grew…. no price tag on that! :)

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 9:36 am

Stacey: You can’t go wrong with strawberries … or gardening, which truly is priceless. Good luck in this random drawing, and thanks for stopping by.

Mary Robinson April 8, 2011 at 8:30 am

I would plant veggies and herbs. I tried a couple years ago w/out much success and have decided this is the year to try a raised bed–maybe you’ll be able to help me get started!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 9:21 am

Mary, you should definitely get started growing veggies and herbs … no matter what. Your local Master Gardeners or Cooperative Extension Service can help you get going. Good luck in this drawing.

Debbie Smith April 8, 2011 at 8:30 am

I would this bed for lettuce/greens rotation and cutting flowers – probably giant zinnias.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 9:22 am

Hi Debbie: giant zinnias sound super. I just bought a packet of seeds myself recently. Good luck in this random drawing, and thanks for visiting.

Chrissy April 8, 2011 at 8:30 am

I have already planned on doing both, waiting for the tax $ to come in to make my dreams come true. So if I could win it instead that would be saving $ and saving 22lbs from the landfills:-)

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 9:20 am

Sounds like a good plan, Chrissy. Good luck in this giveaway, and thanks for entering.

theresa rooney April 8, 2011 at 8:31 am

I would use the raised beds to grow edibles and add a few flowers to attract all those wonderful pollinators. Of course many flowers are edible also

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 9:19 am

That’s right, Theresa. I love combining edible flowers with my vegetables and herbs. Good luck in this random drawing.

Pam Dale April 8, 2011 at 8:46 am

Fresh salsa, all from my garden, now that just sounds good! Imagine having friends over and saying let’s have salsa; going and picking everything you need. How cool would that be?

Thanks for doing the give aways. Great products!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 9:19 am

Pam, thanks for the nice words. I wish I could give everyone a prize just for commenting. Good luck to you!

patricia krupica April 8, 2011 at 9:00 am

Oh boy would I love to have them…I love to garden altho at 78 it’s hard to kneel down…but if I have to crawl, I’ll always garden. Veggies, flowers, etc.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 9:18 am

Patricia, never stop gardening. It keeps us young. Good luck to you, and thanks for entering this random drawing.

Sheila Miller April 8, 2011 at 9:02 am

My 83 year young mother would love this!! She loves to plant but our area in southwest Arkansas is rocky!! She would plant veggies and some pretty marigolds!!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 9:17 am

Sheila, that is sweet! Good luck to you both on this giveaway.

Kat April 8, 2011 at 9:26 am

If you had asked last year what I would use a raised be for I would have said veggies. But this spring I really find myself craving flowers. My goal this year is to ad more flowers to my yard so flowers it would be.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 9:34 am

Love it Kat! Have you considered growing eggplants? They have lovely purple star-shaped flowers that turn into those luscious fruits. And many ripen rather quickly, like ‘Fairy Tale.’ Whatever you grow … good luck this spring and with the giveaway!

Dana April 8, 2011 at 9:32 am

Edibles! I love the idea of growing my own salad fixings in a compact way.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 9:33 am

Dana, I agree. You can grow salad greens in so many tiny spots around the garden. Good luck in this giveaway!

Katie April 8, 2011 at 9:37 am

Would love to have a place to grow my veggies and flowers – I am sure they would appreciate a bed rather than my planned containers.
Thanks

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 9:40 am

Good luck to you, Katie. Whether you grow veggies and flowers in containers or raised beds may they provide a big harvest for you. Cheers!

Claudia Trott April 8, 2011 at 9:43 am

I love these raised bed kits for growing all sorts of vegetables. I’d use it for raising edibles-maybe start an asparagus bed- if it ever stops raining in the NW!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 10:12 am

Good luck, Claudia. Thanks for sharing!

Lori April 8, 2011 at 9:45 am

I would use it for veggies and herbs.I really want to start a medicinal raised herb garden.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 10:11 am

Good for you, Lori. I have lots of medicinal and culinary herbs all over my garden. Love it! Best of luck in the giveaway!

Michelle April 8, 2011 at 10:03 am

Really opened my eyes to raised beds, definitely I would use it for herbs (food).

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 10:11 am

Michelle, definitely give raised beds a try. They really help with poor soil conditions. Good luck!

Annabelle lind April 8, 2011 at 10:12 am

I have been using raised beds for years and this year have had to dismantle two of them because of rotting boards (12 years old)! Would love to win your raised bed. We love tomatoes and last year canned 50 quarts of tomatoes salsa. Can’t beat that fresh tomato taste. Can’t wait for Spring planting.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 10:40 am

Annabelle: That’s one of the nice things about these composite boards. They’ll last longer than wood. Good luck in the giveaway.

Annabelle lind April 8, 2011 at 10:17 am

We have been using raised beds for years. This year had to dismantle 2 of them because of rotting boards (12 years), so would love to win this prize. We canned 50 quarts of tomato salsa last year. Can’t beat that fresh tomato taste. Cheers! Can’t wait for spring planting.

Carmen Price April 8, 2011 at 11:09 am

I also have nothing but clay, so raised beds are our only option. I find that we have the best luck when we mix ornamentals that draw the pollinators with our vegetables. The bees go especially crazy for a sentry African Blue basil in the bed. Can’t imagine what basil-heavy honey tastes like, though!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 11:11 am

African blue basil sounds wonderful, Carmen. Good luck with this giveaway, and thanks for entering.

Karen April 8, 2011 at 7:18 pm

yes! Bees love African Blue Basil! I discovered that last year too! I’m glad I wasn’t just imagining it. :)

Leslie Prest April 8, 2011 at 11:22 am

I’d definately use it for edibles, although I always mix some flowers in. I have 2 raised beds, and another area which I would like to “raise”. My knees thank me when I raise a bed up some.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 11:38 am

I agree, Leslie. Raised beds help the knees. Good luck in the giveaway and thanks for sharing.

Tessa @ Blunders with Shoots, Blossoms 'n Roots April 8, 2011 at 11:52 am

I’d probably plant strawberries with a few flowers tucked in for pest control! Maybe even get more and turn it into a strawberry pyramid :)

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 12:53 pm

That would great, Tessa. Good luck to you in the giveaway, and thanks so much for stopping by.

Hannah Bar-Giora April 8, 2011 at 12:27 pm

I’ve been wanting to plant a small raised bed vegetable garden for a long time. I don’t get enough sun so I’m going to do it at my elderly mother’s house!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 12:52 pm

Hannah: What a pleasant thought to share the garden with your mom. Enjoy the spring, and good luck in this random drawing.

Matt April 8, 2011 at 12:34 pm

I would use it for some nice peppers.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 12:51 pm

Good idea, Matt. You can never have enough peppers. Thanks for entering … and good luck.

Kelly Slate April 8, 2011 at 12:53 pm

We just moved into a home at the end of last summer (August 30), with no time to start a vegetable garden. We’ve been so eager for the planting season to begin, and to have some canning to do over the summer and fall. This gardening system sounds like it would be an awesome way to start our new garden!
(Best of luck to the other folks in the drawing. Someone is going to be very happy!)

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 12:58 pm

Kelly, congratulations on your new home! This would be a good way to start that new garden. Good luck to you in the giveaway. I wish everyone could win one in this random drawing.

Kim April 8, 2011 at 1:59 pm

I have wanted a raised bed for gardening since I first saw one a few years ago. Physically, I can not longer dig to prepare a garden because of spinal problems so this would be perfect! Only adding the soil, compost – planting seeds-veggies-flowers-makes it so much easier-to have a garden in a yard. Being that it is raised and contained allows easy access for dead heading, weeding and getting at any plant from any side. They also look well kept and one can create a beautiful garden and have an abundance of herbs and vegetables.

Kim April 8, 2011 at 1:38 pm

I have wanted a raised bed for some time now- instead of having to dig deep into the ground to start a garden.-I can not longer dig and want a vegetable garden with flowers.
Having a raised bed will be much easier; filling it with soil and compost first-adding seeds-plants-bulbs -anything. I also want to plant and have easy access for watering, etc..With a bad spine, it is practical and a great idea for all gardeners.

Kathy Dubya April 8, 2011 at 2:05 pm

When not aerating the soil in her lovely raised bed, Coco would plant edibles such as old bones, and scraps of paper for harvesting when she’s bored, hungry or just not getting gobs of attention.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 3:32 pm

Hi Kathy: Well, good luck to your little dog Coco and to you in this giveaway. Thanks a bunch for stopping by.

Nicky April 8, 2011 at 2:48 pm

Ooooh I would fill mine up with salad fixin’s and edible flowers. Maybe put a trellis at one end and grow sugarsnaps. :-)

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 3:31 pm

Nicky: You go girl. That would be an awfully pretty bed. Thanks for stopping by and entering my giveaway. Good luck!

Suzanne April 8, 2011 at 3:11 pm

I would like to begin with one and add to it in the shape of a medicine wheel and plant floral, herb and vegetables according to direction. I have always wanted to create it. I live in the beautiful forest of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and a raised bed arrangement is the best option!!
Suz

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 3:31 pm

Suzanne: That sounds great, and at these prices, it’s easier to buy more than one. Lucky you to live near the Sierras. I’ve spent many a happy summer day hiking and camping there. Good luck!

brenda R April 8, 2011 at 3:15 pm

Cheryl Crowe April 8, 2011 at 3:17 pm

I’d love this kit! We’ve built our raised beds this year out of wood we sawed on our sawmill. I’d love to have this beautiful kit to use in the front because it’s much prettier than our current beds.
I love your site and am so glad I found it via Facebook!
Love the use of the recycled materials too!
Cheryl

Tracy April 8, 2011 at 3:21 pm

My husband and I are talking raised beds for all of our ornamental flowers and for our vegetables. We live in a very rocky area, where every year the frost heaves new rocks to the surface. We like to say we grow rocks! Raised beds would be a boon to us, less bending, easier to keep weed free and better drainage.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 3:25 pm

Absolutely, Tracy. Raised beds seem like the way to go. Good luck in this giveaway.

Patty Whipple April 8, 2011 at 3:22 pm

I would be sooo excited to win a wonderful gift like this amazing raised bed. I am walking down a new path in my life. My husband had a stoke & after 5 years of being his caregiver. I have bought some property, & I am in the process of creating a homesteading farm. I want to bring my husband home & make our new life together on the farm. I want to teach children & adults how to make more out of your life. Tom & I have been so blessed. I want to give back… this bed would be so much fun to share with others…. pkw

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 3:25 pm

Gina Mortenson April 8, 2011 at 3:27 pm

My back yard has mostly clay-dirt and I’ve been wanting to start a garden, bringing in soil and mix to have an edible garden for my family and special things for my lil’ urban farm. This would be an excellent start :) Thanks!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 3:38 pm

Gina: You are right. This would be an excellent start for your “lil’ urban farm.” Good luck, and happy gardening. Thanks for stopping by.

Daisy April 8, 2011 at 3:28 pm

We’d use it for edibles, definitely. A raised bed would be a great place for my spinach and lettuce crops, or maybe tomatoes and peppers… or peas, beans, and just about anything on my list!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 3:36 pm

Daisy: You could probably squeeze a lot of those vegetables in this double bed. Good luck and thanks for entering these giveaways.

Dea April 8, 2011 at 3:50 pm

Live in the country with chickens…raised beds are great if you need to put wire around them to protect your crops. Raised beds make gorgeous gardens. I do vegies of all kinds and lots of flowers.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 4:02 pm

Dee, good idea about the protection wire. Best of luck to you, and thanks for stopping by.

Amanda Enis April 8, 2011 at 3:53 pm

Thanks Amanda for entering this giveaway. Good luck to you!

Amy April 8, 2011 at 4:16 pm

If I had this kit, I would be using it mostly for edibles (with the occasional pretty flower for passerby’s)! I’ve been wanting to use raised beds for sometime now, and this kit would be put to use, as soon as it showed up on my doorstep! I have two small children (3 and 5) who I want to show how to garden, so they can appreciate where all of their food comes from on a daily basis. Thank You for the opportunity! Happy Gardening! :)

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 5:48 pm

Hi Amy: Happy gardening to you … and your children. They are lucky to have a mom who wants to teach them about gardening. Thanks for entering, and good luck in this random drawing.

Nancy April 8, 2011 at 4:17 pm

I need a raised bed for the one sunny area in my side yard.. and I would be making a kitchen garden.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 5:47 pm

Love kitchen gardens! Thanks for stopping by, Nancy. Good luck!

deb mauer April 8, 2011 at 4:24 pm

My daughter and I took old tires last year and planted veggies in them in the front yard. It was a unique idea, but the neighbors weren’t thrilled. It’d be so much classier with a raised bed!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 5:47 pm

Hi Deb: I would just be careful of any possible toxins that might be in those tires. Probably better to stick with other containers or reasonably priced raised beds like this one. Good luck in the giveaway.

Merrill Angelo Stratford April 8, 2011 at 4:28 pm

I would love one of your raised beds for my vegetables and herbs !

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 5:46 pm

Good luck in the giveaway, Merrill.

Leslie Burden April 8, 2011 at 4:31 pm

I think I would grow edibles in it and maybe toss in some herbs too. I’m lucky that my son loves his veggies as much as I do and fresh is always best. Thanks for offering up such a great item!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 5:46 pm

Leslie: Thanks for stopping by and entering this giveaway. Glad to hear your son loves his veggies. Good for him!

Bea April 8, 2011 at 4:43 pm

I so badly want a veggi bed! Salsa specifically! I used to can homegrown salsa with my mom and I miss that so much.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 5:44 pm

Bea, I love the idea of you canning homegrown salsa with your mom. You’ve definitely got to start a veggie bed. Good luck in this random drawing.

Alison April 8, 2011 at 4:50 pm

I would use it in my sunny front yard for a combination bed!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 5:39 pm

That sounds great, Alison. Thanks for entering!

Anne April 8, 2011 at 5:02 pm

This looks awesome! I would use it for a combination bed, mostly edibles but with ornamentals thrown in for fun and aesthetics. Possibly a couple of herbs, too!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 5:43 pm

Anne, I agree with you. Nothing better than a mix of edibles with a few ornamentals. Thanks for entering!

Ellen Morfit April 8, 2011 at 5:15 pm

Edibles! We missed putting in a bed at our new house last year and are planning a couple to put in this month. Fresh food without putting on shoes! Yippee.

Many thanks Teresa, this is an inspiring site.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 5:42 pm

Thanks, Ellen. I love to inspire gardeners. Good luck with your new house, and with this random drawing.

Sue April 8, 2011 at 5:23 pm

I would use it for veggies with a couple of flowers tucked in for color!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 5:41 pm

That sounds super, Sue. Good luck!

Diane Clements April 8, 2011 at 5:37 pm

Oh my! The veggie seeds would be sown in the 40’x15′ new no till (and so hoping no weed) aged horse manure/paper/mulch layered spot I just got done prepping and the salsa herb seeds would go in those neat raised garden boxes! Playing in the dirt is still such fun…

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 5:39 pm

Diane: I agree. I love playing in the dirt! Thanks for entering and good luck.

Cheryl Firth April 8, 2011 at 5:57 pm

I love Raised bed gardening, I have done these for many years, and taught classes for church, and individual help, I even had a friend once who lived on a farm and I converted her to raised bed gardening, she couldn’t believe the massive difference in how much she could grow in the small boxes verses the long rows, which kept getting munched by wildlife. raised beds are so much better at protecting against critters, saving money on water, nutrients, and having much healthier even larger produce, and a lot more of it. I have recently moved to a area with a small yard, missing my garden, and having to start all over from scratch, Id love to get a little help starting over by winning, then I can start teaching friends again, and restocking my pantry. Thanks. :)

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:23 pm

You are so right, Cheryl. Raised beds have so many advantages. Thanks for visiting and good luck!

kelsey April 8, 2011 at 5:59 pm

Patricia C April 8, 2011 at 6:13 pm

We would use this bed for edibles. I would grow climbing veggies in the back side of the raised bed and set up trellises to save space.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:21 pm

Patricia: Great idea to set up climbing veggies. I’ve got a bean teepee planned for my garden this year. Good luck!

Cyndi Martin April 8, 2011 at 6:38 pm

Emily Robinson April 8, 2011 at 7:13 pm

Emily, Wishing you a great growing season, and thanks for entering this giveaway.

Jan @TWOwomenANDaHOE April 8, 2011 at 7:17 pm

Terrilynn April 8, 2011 at 7:37 pm

I just moved into a new home this fall…I would love to put in raised beds in my “front yard”. Not only will it help me cut down on mowing 😀 but, I would grow food! Whoo hoo!!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 7:40 pm

Absolutely, Terrilynn: No reason why you can’t grow food in the front yard. Some of these edibles are certainly ornamental too. Good luck!

Angela April 8, 2011 at 8:04 pm

btw Teresa, thought you might be interested that Yes to Carrots has something called the Yes to Seed Fund (http://bit.ly/e3a7H6) thats giving away $10,000 grants to schools to help plant gardens… oh yes and I learned this by shopping at my Whole Foods store (20% off products woohoo!)

Laura Buckley April 8, 2011 at 9:46 pm

I would use this raised bed to grow both edibles and perennials in my backyard, which has a slope to it. It’s the only part of my property that gets full sun and I’m dying to grow better tomatoes, other veggies, herbs, and some ornamental grasses and flowers. Woman cannot live by salad alone, she also needs beauty!

Teresa O'Connor April 9, 2011 at 9:01 am

Laura, good luck in your yard. Personally, I find many of the edible plants as pretty as the ornamental ones. Thanks for entering this random drawing!

Shayne April 8, 2011 at 9:49 pm

I am actually going to Sams to purchase this exact set up tomorrow :) for our carrots and a few other things but would LOVE more :) , So I’d have to say ours is going to be for mainly edibles atleast this year :)

Teresa O'Connor April 9, 2011 at 9:00 am

Shayne: Great! Hope you like your set. I found mine very easy to assemble. And thanks for entering this giveaway too. Good luck.

Bobbi April 14, 2011 at 10:38 pm

I have been watching my yard for the last few years and wanting to grow something like vegetables which would be good for my family, and this would be just the thing to start with, then add more and more till I have vegetables, berries, add more and plant herbs and have some flowers too. (Put flowers in all the beds actually)! :) They attract bees for the rest of the garden. Plus then there is the satisfaction of growing plants for your own benefit and the neighbors too.

Teresa O'Connor April 15, 2011 at 10:22 am

Good for you, Bobbi. An edible garden will bring you many hours of pleasure, and wonderful meals as well. Have fun and thanks for stopping by.

jamie naugler May 8, 2011 at 3:49 pm

With a family of T and gas prices being what they are we struggle to make ends meet every month lately. A good friend recently introduced me to gardening and growing edibles. The whole family has really taken to the idea. We have started composting and planning our garden. We would greatly benefit from this garden. Thank you

Teresa O'Connor May 9, 2011 at 11:32 am

Hi Jamie: Thanks for stopping by. As you can see above, this giveaway has already closed. But the raised beds can be found at various stores nationwide for $39.95. Best of luck to you!
