We are loving the Blue Honeywort for its ease of growth and beautiful blue-green blooms.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 6:51 am

Thanks Sprout. Doesn’t Annies Annuals always have gorgeous plants. I’ll have to look into the blue honeywort. Thanks for sharing! Good luck in this random drawing!

Carmen Price April 7, 2011 at 6:56 am

The Rocky Mountain columbine is a fantastic color! I don’t think I’ve ever seen quite that shade before. Love it!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:22 am

Carmen: I love columbines too, especially in early spring. Good luck in the random drawing!

Jules April 7, 2011 at 7:08 am

Iris douglasiana, ‘P.B.’nJ.’ … that is definitely on my wish list this year! I just adore iris and all the different species that are available.

Chef Stephanie Petersen April 7, 2011 at 7:16 am

They have agave! Wow! I’m so impressed! I’d go for that! Heck…I’d go for any beautiful flowers, but you know me! I think any of the edible ones especially! Thanks for the chance to win! I’d love to offer this to my readers as well if they’re looking for more blogs to promote with.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:24 am

Hi Chef Stephanie: Yep, they have a lot of beautiful drought-tolerant plants, as you can see. I do recall you love edible flowers. That’s how we met, if I remember right. Good luck in this random drawing, and happy spring.

Genevieve April 7, 2011 at 7:27 am

Oh goodness, well, to start – Geranium ‘Bill Wallis’ is my new plant boyfriend. Love those purple blooms! And Asarina ‘Sky Blue’ is deliciously pretty. And my goodness, her California poppies and blue foothills penstemon and the Hello Kitty eraser plant… I could spend $50 in a heartbeat.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 10:34 am

Genevieve: I know exactly what you mean! Too bad I’m disqualified from entering this giveaway. 😉 Good luck to you.

Chrissy April 7, 2011 at 8:37 am

ALL OF THEM 😉 but the Aquilegia chrysantha ‘Yellow Queen’ , really caught my eye! We just bought our house last spring so I have a clean slate to fill, I am soo excited this Spring because last Spring I was only able to do a few things. I was too busy unpacking boxes and taking care of the inside.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 10:33 am

Chrissy: Congrats on the new house, and have fun in the garden this year. Thanks for entering this random drawing, and good luck!

karen fitz April 7, 2011 at 8:50 am

I love Annie’s Plants, and one reason is the bountiful way the look-they literally “leap” off the pages of the catalog. My personal fav is the Poppy, in all it’s varieties and splendor. Like big, pastel cones of soft serve ice cream.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 10:33 am

Karen, I adore poppies too, and Annie’s Annuals has a tremendous collection. So many poppies, so little room. Good luck!

Woodwife April 7, 2011 at 10:05 am

Antirrhinum majus ‘Double Azalea Apricot’. Love the apricot snapdragons!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 10:32 am

Woodwife, I love apricot snapdragons too. They really pop in the garden border, don’t they? Thanks for entering and good luck!

Samantha Limcaco April 7, 2011 at 10:24 am

Adore the pink flowering currant- reminds me of Jane Austen, proper English tea and all things dainty. Plus it’s a hummingbird magnet!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 10:31 am

Samantha, Isn’t that pink currant a stunner? I love your description. Good luck in this random drawing!

Shellee April 7, 2011 at 10:45 am

I love these! I think that Fuchsia ‘Nettala’ would be beautiful in front of our south facing home!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 10:54 am

Shellee, Those fuchsia would look great in front of many homes. Good luck in the random drawing, and thanks for entering!

Nenette Seaux April 7, 2011 at 10:59 am

Nenette, good luck in this random drawing, and thanks so much for sharing.

Stacie April 7, 2011 at 11:10 am

The succulents! Can’t pick just one. Living in Scottsdale we have a xeriscape frontyard and wish I could add more unusual succulents…..they are like artwork.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 11:51 am

Stacie: I agree. Succulents are so graphic. In a good way… 😉 Good luck in the giveaway!

Debbi (Vagablonde515) Hempe April 7, 2011 at 11:23 am

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 11:51 am

Artichokes are beautiful in the garden, even if you don’t want to eat them! Good luck, Debbi.

Jessica L. April 7, 2011 at 11:41 am

I have a soft spot for poppies so I would love to plant Papaver ‘Danebrog’. They would be a standout in any garden!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 11:50 am

I agree Jessica. Those are beautiful. Good luck!

Anna Webb April 7, 2011 at 12:03 pm

Lime green nicotiana, of course. The shape, to me, is reminiscent of Persian carpets. The color, well, you can’t have too much lime green. Plant it with orange and white…ah!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 12:42 pm

You know, Anna, I’ve been lusting after that plant too. Ever since Annie wrote an article in Fine Gardening and showed a picture. That color is wonderful. You’ve convinced me to buy one. Thanks! And good luck…

Sheila Donnelly April 7, 2011 at 1:29 pm

I’m in love with Annie’s Annuals Bachelor Button ‘ace of spades’ Dianthus ‘chomley farrin’ and all their Clarkias are swoon worthy!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 2:05 pm

Sheila. You have great taste. I love all those flowers too. Good luck in this random drawing.

annie zaki April 7, 2011 at 3:18 pm

They have the best selection of dianthus , can’t pick just one. I love Pinks and hope to go by soon to get some.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 3:37 pm

Annie, Thanks a bunch for sharing your favorites. Good luck to you!

Jackie April 7, 2011 at 3:48 pm

There are so many I love. Right now I am enjoying “Richmond’s Pride” chard I bought last year. It’s doing well and it is so yummy – I put a layer in a lasagna and it was great. Thanks for this opportunity to win the gift card.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 4:02 pm

Yum, Jackie. I love chard too. Good luck with the giveaway, and thanks for sharing.

Sandy April 7, 2011 at 4:17 pm

I’ve had their currant tomatoes (both the red and white) on my wish list for what seems like forever. Hopefully they’ll get them back in stock one of these days – I’ve been itching to try something new and different in my tomato garden!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 5:04 pm

Good luck to you, Sandy, on both the tomatoes and the giveaway. Thanks for dropping by.

Barb Kessel April 7, 2011 at 4:18 pm

Why do I have to choose…it’s too hard! If I could import all of Annie’s to San Diego, I’d be a happy plant geek! But if I hafta…Alonsoa ‘Apricot’ probably makes me happiest. I love the color. I love the airy stems. It’s just a cool plant. BTW…$50 is only going to get me into trouble…there will be more afterwards!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 5:03 pm

Barb, I know it’s hard to choose just a few favorites. I love that apricot color too. Thanks for coming by. Good luck!

Lisa Henry April 7, 2011 at 4:22 pm

My favorite Annie’s plant is Cuphea ‘Minnie Mouse’ Those tiny black ears!!!!!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 5:02 pm

How can you go wrong with Minnie Mouse? 😉 Good luck Lisa!

Warren Keller April 7, 2011 at 4:31 pm

I just love Cerinthe major in my garden, i grew them from seed from Annies. They line my entryway, i love their whimsical appearance, the way they seem to dance in the wind, they are always in bloom and everyone always asks about them! I also have paired in some of Impatiens flanaganae and when they are all in sync together, its just breath taking. When i am walking to my house and see them all in bloom, swaying in the wind, it takes any bad mood i am in and turns it into a calm, relaxing mood. Plants can really set the mood, any mood and i feel i have created this mood with the help of Annies Annuals! Now, i have never visited the nursery, because of my location, but i would love to win a gift card to Annies and be able to buy the “real” plants, instead of the seeds here at osh! Don’t get me wrong, seed’s from Annies are fool proof, although i don’t consider myself too much of a seed guy, i’m more of a “plant it and enjoy” it kinda guy!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 5:02 pm

Love that idea of plants setting a mood, Warren. I agree. Good luck in this random drawing.

Sarah April 7, 2011 at 4:31 pm

I love that I am within driving distance of Annie’s, it’s a great resource for the Bay Area. I adore the black fig leaved hollyhock. It would look amazing in my Halloween themed garden.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 5:01 pm

Wow, lucky you! I’m intrigued by your Halloween-themed garden. Thanks for entering.

Sara Siegel April 7, 2011 at 4:33 pm

I love the ‘Baby Blue Eyes’
The way they plant them under all of the tulips and foxglove at Filoli Gardens is PERFECTION.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Sara, I can just picture it. I love that wildflower too. Good luck!

Jen Su April 7, 2011 at 4:34 pm

I’m obsessed with Annie’s Puyas among other things! Love that place. :)

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 5:00 pm

Jen, it sounds like you’ve been already. Lucky you. Thanks for stopping by.

Sharon April 7, 2011 at 4:34 pm

Passiflora Membranacea (sp?). It’s rare and very beautiful, like Annie Hayes herself.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 4:59 pm

Great Sharon. Hey, thanks for entering the giveaway. Good luck!

Lauren Allpress April 7, 2011 at 4:35 pm

I’ve been in love with all of their poppies ever since I got the catalog. I’m especially in love with the Greek Poppies. Such a nice change from the standard orange poppies everyone in my area grows.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 4:59 pm

Greek poppies sound luscious. I’ll have to research them sometime. Good luck!

Lucinda April 7, 2011 at 4:48 pm

Oh, where to start or stop!!! I suppose if I had to choose, it would be the delphinium belladonna” Cliveden Beauty”–such a favorite of mine for many years ! Its vibrant color and fairy like flowers greet me each day with joy and enthusiasm –and so long lasting too! I love to combine it with the apricots and lime greens! I find all your flower beds a manifestation of an artist’s dreams! And though I live in the mountains, one day I will find my way to visit you! Carry on!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 4:58 pm

Another Annie’s Annual fan! Thanks Lucinda, I’ll make sure they hear your message. Good luck!

caroline April 7, 2011 at 4:54 pm

A sucker for any and all foxglove, I am in love with “Rusty Foxglove” and “Pam’s Choice” – – which looks like it should join Doll’s Eyes in a horror movie garden somewhere. :)

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 4:58 pm

Caroline: I love that picture. Thanks for sharing. Good luck!

Karen April 7, 2011 at 4:55 pm

I’m new to gardening, and my favorites so far are Dianthus….ALL of them. Thanks

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 4:57 pm

Thanks Karen. Good luck!

Ruth April 7, 2011 at 5:05 pm

Annie’s plants are so big and healthy and packed so nicely for shipping that I’d probably be happy with anything! But I do have Lupinus regalis ‘Gallery White’ on my Annie’s wish list.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:25 pm

Good luck Ruth!

Timothy April 7, 2011 at 5:12 pm

Annie’s Annuals offer cabbage trees which I can’t find here in the Denver area. The Denver Botanic Gardens have several big ones in pots and they look sort of Dr. Seuss-ish! I gotta order one from them.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:26 pm

Ooooh, Tim. I love Dr-Seuss plants. Good luck in the giveaway!

Suzanne Carter April 7, 2011 at 5:15 pm

I love the Ribes you have up there…just starting a few cuttings of the same. Cute website!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:26 pm

Thanks Suzanne. I’m a fan of that Ribes too. Good luck!

Anna Beall April 7, 2011 at 5:18 pm

I adore Annie’s Nemophila menziesii or “Baby Blue Eyes”. I’d put that with several varieties of the red/orange poppies. I love that color combo!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:34 pm

That sounds wonderful, Anna. Good luck in the giveaway!

Jen April 7, 2011 at 5:19 pm

Beautiful! I have had Annie’s showy milkweed in my wishlist for a year just waiting for a possible trip up north.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:33 pm

Jen: Milkweed is great for butterflies. Enjoy, and good luck in this giveaway.

Sue Scott April 7, 2011 at 5:23 pm

Geranium pyrenaicum ‘Summer Snow’ – I would love it add it to my garden.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:32 pm

Sounds super Sue. Good luck!

Pam Dale April 7, 2011 at 5:25 pm

One, you want me to choose one? I love Annie’s California Natives (their selection is amazing) and pulled out my front yard and converted it. Right now I am loving the spring California Natives – poppies and baby blue eyes and the other spring flowers that Annie’s encouraged me to plant (thankfully planted some in late fall, others the end of Feb when we had a break in weather). Soon the lupine will be blooming, along with the holly hocks (black of course) and then there will be the Delta Sunflowers. Oh, and how about the sweet peas? I’m thinking I need some counseling – maybe some Annie’s therapy? :-)

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:32 pm

Pam: Your garden sounds amazing. Congratulations! And good luck in this random drawing.

Nancy Keep April 7, 2011 at 5:27 pm

If you are a lucky one, you can go to their store, have a little red wagon to pull around and then just go crazy with 4″ inch pots of everything imaginable….. Love this place…. better than therapy

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:31 pm

Nancy, I can just imagine. Have a good time. Thanks for stopping by.

suzanne meadows April 7, 2011 at 5:27 pm

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:30 pm

Kori, Sweet peas have such a wonderful smell. Good luck!

Michelle April 7, 2011 at 5:38 pm

I love Annie’s plants and my favorite (if I HAVE to choose just one) is Papaver Commutatum or “Ladybird”. I love these because I have three children under the age of six and these look like Ladybugs and are so magical for the kids to watch bloom.

rose mctier April 7, 2011 at 5:40 pm

Tom M April 7, 2011 at 5:41 pm

Would love to add to our Helleborous or Heuchera collection, and love the variety Annie has. Sure wish we lived closer to her business. I keep telling her she lives in the wrong ‘Richmond’. :) Thanks – @SolakNC on Twitter.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:24 pm

Tom: I’m a big fan of Helleborus and Heuchera. Good luck in the giveaway.

carri April 7, 2011 at 5:41 pm

I’d have to say my favorites from them have been Echium “Tower of Jewels” and the Blue Honeywort (since it blooms year round here!). And I’ll see them Saturday for their Spring party!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:23 pm

Hi Carri: So jealous! Have a great time on Saturday, and thanks for entering the giveaway.

Marina Lawson April 7, 2011 at 5:43 pm

I love the different papavers that Annie’s has (poppies). Iceland and California poppies are beautiful, but the other poppies are so unusual that you just have to have them for your garden. The blue cerinthe (honeywort) is also beautiful…blue green leaves with violet bell-like flowers.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:23 pm

Marina: Those papavers sound wonderful. Good luck in the giveaway!

Nikki April 7, 2011 at 5:47 pm

Lusting after the “Homoglad hybrids” right now… Such a beautiful coral color… Would look lovely in my backyard flowerbed by the pool :)

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:32 pm

Sounds swell, Nikki. Good luck to you in this random drawing.

Kristen Conner April 7, 2011 at 5:49 pm

I love supporting Annie’s — a truly awesome local business. I can’t believe it took me so long to find them: I livedtwo miles from them for nearly a decade before I knew who and where they were. Now, they are my first stop for gardening needs, especially plants. I’ll see some of you at their garden party this weekend!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:31 pm

So jealous Kristen. Have fun this weekend, and thanks for stopping by.

Scott Smith April 7, 2011 at 5:51 pm

I love echium wildpretii. Beautiful Dr. Seuss-esque show-stopper.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:31 pm

Thanks Scott. I’ll have to check that plant out. I’m intrigued now.

Sharon Uhl April 7, 2011 at 5:53 pm

Thanks for the being the industry leader and keeping the enthusiasm alive. Miss ordering from you weekly. Thanks again!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Hi Sharon: I’ll make sure Annie gets your message. Thanks for entering this giveaway.

Grace April 7, 2011 at 5:54 pm

Ooh, pick me, pick me! I love Annie’s. I don’t have a favorite but I
love Clarkia ‘Shamini’, Eriogonum or Red Buckwheat and Geranium maderense–none of which are hardy in my garden but still fun to have for a season. I love her catalog is fabulous and my wishlist is growing…

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Oh, Grace. Thanks for your enthusiasm, and good luck in this random drawing.

Sandra Whisler April 7, 2011 at 5:55 pm

Oh, I want the Emeryville cultivar of the native grape, to add to the Pt Molate monkeyflower I already have. How cool is it that they have varieties of California natives that are native to within 10 miles of where I live!

Carol C. April 7, 2011 at 5:59 pm

Royal ensign and baby blue eyes are my favorites.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:29 pm

Those baby blue eyes are so popular, Carol. Thanks for entering … and good luck!

Diana Goings April 7, 2011 at 6:04 pm

I just brought home my bee family today, so with that theme on my mind, I would get a collection of Agastaches, which bees love and I would get them a watering dish in the form of the Froggy Bird Bath. My directions say to provide water for my bees and that dish the Froggie is holding up looks just right!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:28 pm

Diana: Good luck with the bees and in this giveaway. Thanks for visiting.

Benjamin Vogt April 7, 2011 at 6:07 pm

Carex comans ‘Bronze’, but I’m really into carex now anyway. What the world needs now is more carex!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:28 pm

Thanks Benjamin. Good luck to you! And thanks for stopping by.

Joanie Crear April 7, 2011 at 6:11 pm

I love Annie’s Annual! Lots of her plants won’t grow outside in my zone 5 but I have 8 south facing windows and lots of plants in pots. One of my favs is the Ranunculus. We can grow the Meadow Buttercup here in zone 5!!!! It stinks to be soooooooooooo cold!!!!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:27 pm

Joanie, Thanks for sharing your gardening situation. Enjoy the spring, and thanks for entering this random giveaway.

scott souza April 7, 2011 at 6:11 pm

Poppys and wildflowers

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:26 pm

Yep, Scott. Annie’s does poppies and wildflowers very well. Good luck!

Barbara April 7, 2011 at 6:25 pm

I would love the Passiflora manicata ‘Red’ . I am in desperate need of a vine for the backyard and the arbor I just got last weekend. It really is a need, not a want:)

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:24 pm

Barbara, gardening is often a need. I understand completely. Good luck in this random giveaway.

Alison April 7, 2011 at 6:29 pm

I love Annie’s Annuals! I got an order from them just a few days ago, but more are always welcome! I’d love to win this. I love all their California wildflowers, but I think if I won I would order Ceanothus ‘Tuxedo.’

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:23 pm

Alison, It’s easy to love those California wildflowers. Thanks for participating … and good luck!

Nikole Strohl April 7, 2011 at 6:33 pm

We live in the valley where it is HOT and dry. Last spring before the heat arrived I just fell in love with the pairing of Nemophila menziesii Baby Blue Eyes and Alonsoa Meridonalis Apricot. It made my garden look effortlessly romantic, when they got leggy, just hacked em back a bit, and in a week or two they were back to their amazing selves! I can’t wait to see my showy milkweed…waiting for those monarchs to come visit the garden. I LOVE ANNIES!!!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:23 pm

Nikole, That sounds beautiful. Thanks for sharing your gardening tips, and good luck in the giveaway.

Shelley Pasco April 7, 2011 at 6:53 pm

My intention this year is to grow as many hummingbird plants as possible. I need one of those Ribes sanguineum ‘Claremont’ ! I’ll have to add it to my wish list. Lovely blog!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:22 pm

Thanks Shelley. Glad you like it! I love that Ribes sanguineum ‘Claremont’ too. Good luck in this random giveaway.

Lisa April 7, 2011 at 6:58 pm

The Geum that I planted is in full bloom!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:20 pm

Congrats Lisa. Good luck in the giveaway

Suzanne April 7, 2011 at 7:00 pm

Since I’m no longer living in California, I have to pick carefully. Unfortunately a lot of the things I want at Annies are currently unavailable, like the Iris confusa. I really want that, as well as some Sedums. But, I also want the Pink Heirloom poppy. I love poppies.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:20 pm

Good luck Suzanne. I’m a big fan of poppies too. Thanks for stopping by.

Kristi April 7, 2011 at 7:01 pm

I am going to Annie’s this weekend for the first time. I have a long list of plants I want to get there but the Puya berteroniana
“Turquoise Puya” “Blue Puya really caught my eye. I have never seen a plant that color before.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:19 pm

Kristi: I’m so jealous that you live near Annie’s. Have a great time, and good luck in the giveaway.

Diane Clements April 7, 2011 at 7:04 pm

The lovely lupinus regalis Thomas Church is no doubt on everyone’s wish list; it’s at the top of mine! Just discovered Annie’s in my mailbox here on the east coast a few weeks ago and am just ecstatic! The first batch of 8 perennials with the most profuse root system ever for mail order plants have just been planted in the garden and there are so many more to explore and enjoy…. Thank you, Annie!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:28 pm

Hi Diane: I’ve been hearing that a lot today that Annie’s has the best root system in mail order plants. I’ll pass along your message, and good luck!

Kylee at Our Little Acre April 7, 2011 at 7:12 pm

Agave havardiana, of course! And why? Because I’m NUTS for agaves!! But really, I’m nuts for so many things at Annie’s!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:18 pm

Thanks Kylee. It’s easy to be nuts about these plants, isn’t it? Good luck to you, and thanks for stopping by.

Kelly Soto April 7, 2011 at 7:35 pm

I love all their plants, but especially the succulents!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 7:36 pm

Me too. Good luck Kelly!

Kathie H April 7, 2011 at 7:37 pm

It has to be the yellow tufted poppies (Eschscholzia caespitosa). Yellow is such a lovely spring color to burst through the last dreary days of a lingering winter.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:19 pm

Kathie: Those yellow tufted poppies are so popular. Thanks for sharing. Good luck!

Gail Ferriera April 7, 2011 at 7:38 pm

I love all the different California natives. Really there isn’t one plant I don’t love. Love the flowers with long stems and small flowers.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:18 pm

Thanks for entering the giveaway, Gail. Good luck!

jeavonna chapman April 7, 2011 at 7:40 pm

I love the pink currants because I love hummingbirds. Anything that gets then to stop by my house is welcome.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:18 pm

I’m with you, Jeavonna. I love attracting hummingbirds to the garden. Good luck!

Rachel (Hounds in the Kitchen) April 7, 2011 at 7:47 pm

I would really like to plant more rhubarb, like Annie’s Glaskin’s Perpetual.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:17 pm

Good luck Rachel. Thanks for sharing!

mary April 7, 2011 at 7:48 pm

Cerinthe major purpurascens “Blue Honeywort” is one of my faves…. if anyone is looking for something that is *super* cool looking, easy to grow and fast to bloom – i recommend this very interesting plant!

hoping to make it down to Anni’es this weekend :)

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:17 pm

Thanks Mary. I’ll definitely check out this plant … and have a great time at Annie’s this weekend. Good luck in the giveaway!

John Dennis April 7, 2011 at 7:51 pm

I <3 Annie's Annuals and especially love Echium Mr. Happy.
For obvious reasons 😉

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:16 pm

Thanks for sharing, John. Good luck in this giveaway.

Cindy Roberts April 7, 2011 at 8:03 pm

Delphinium belladonna ‘Cliveden Beauty,’ is so spectacular in an arrangement. That is what my gardening is all about, making the perfect flower arrangement to take to my friend, neighbor, mother, sister, bunco party, every time a delphinium is in my arrangements I get the best compliments and all my friends tell me I should go into the business. I even made bouquets for four of my coworkers one year on Mother’s DAy. They each paid me $25.00 for flowers (they brought me the vase)that would have cost them $95.00 from a florist.
Gardening is my passion right next to golf.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:16 pm

Cindy: That’s great that you are making such wonderful flower arrangements. Thanks for sharing, and good luck!

Jacqueline Lasahn April 7, 2011 at 8:22 pm

Oh Annie’s! I’d love to attend their Spring party this weekend, but I’ll be working at the Green Festival. Would I be so lucky to win, I’d choose from any of the deer-resistant agastches or salvias. My front yard is an established deer trail. It’s ok if they nibble…and they will! But, I need some more unattractive (to them!) flowering plants to replace the ever-aggressive weeds. Good luck so far with Hummingbird Sage among others. Thank you and Happy Spring 😉

Kevin Durkin April 7, 2011 at 8:38 pm

Tithonia rotundifolia ‘The Torch’: I love this plant. It’s a great background plant in front of my house where I’ve planted a bee/butterfly/hummingbird friendly bed. The medium green color of my home makes the orange flowers pop. The butterflies love it as do all my neighbors.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:48 pm

That sounds awesome, Kevin. Thanks for entering the giveaway.

Leonora Leacock April 7, 2011 at 8:45 pm

Cupids Dart looks so pretty and easy to grow! My kind of flower!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:47 pm

Leonora: Gotta love cupids dart! Good luck in the giveaway.

Karan Hatzenbeler April 7, 2011 at 8:48 pm

My current favorite is the lime green Nicotiana. I bought it at Annie’s Fall Party and it is blooming beautifully! I am soooo looking forward to going in to Annie’s this Saturday for the Spring Party too. (from Sac)
A friend from Sunnyvale is meeting me there and I can’t wait for her to see my favorite nursery!
I love Annie’s and appreciate their site turning me on to this blog as well. Annie & team just add so much fun to my life! Thank you all.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 8:50 pm

Hi Karen: I’m lusting after that plant too. Thanks for the tip. Have fun at the Spring Party, and good luck tonight.

Diane Cannon April 7, 2011 at 8:57 pm

Although I’m not usually a big fan of white flowers, I love the Candyflower (Claytonia sibirica). It really lights up my shady areas.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 9:53 pm

Diane: thanks for sharing. Good luck!

Lydia Joy Davis April 7, 2011 at 9:00 pm

I’m growing Alonsoa ‘Apricot’ and Cerinthe “blue honeywort” together and it is the such an easy and gorgeous combo. I love to plant these two in the gardens of those I’m trying to bite with the gardening bug. You can’t go wrong! Part shade, full sun, dappled shade- it works in all these conditions for me.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 9:52 pm

Lydia: That sounds like a gorgeous combination. I may have to consider that one for myself. Good luck in the random giveaway!

Lisa April 7, 2011 at 9:05 pm

Oh, jeez…I love everything at Annie’s! Especially at this time of the year, my favorite is the Lime Nicotiana. I have one big, bright bloom right now that looks like a child’s sunshine. I’ve had my eye on the Aquilegia ‘Krystal’ for a couple years now… $50 would make for a nice mass planting 😉

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 9:51 pm

Lisa, I’ve heard lots of love for the Lime Nicotiana today. Good choice. Thanks for entering the giveaway!

rachael April 7, 2011 at 9:34 pm

The four Bird’s Eye (Gilia tricolor) that I bought from them in the Fall are blooming like CRAZY in my backyard right now. I absolutely love that it has BLUE POLLEN!

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 9:51 pm

Rachael, blue pollen, that’s amazing. Good luck in the giveaway!

Sally S April 7, 2011 at 9:39 pm

I am salivating over Angelica gigas and Angelica stricta ‘Purpurea’ as I think their bold, big leaves and deep violet flowers are exquisite.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 9:50 pm

Thanks for sharing Sally. Good luck!

Kathryn April 7, 2011 at 9:42 pm

I planted a couple of their “Ladybird” poppies and they are doing FANTASTIC! I wish I had picked up more because they are just about to put on an awesome show.

Teresa O'Connor April 7, 2011 at 9:50 pm

Wow, Kathryn. They sound beautiful. Good luck in the giveaway!

Debra Carey April 7, 2011 at 9:52 pm

Exciting plants I see at Annie’s include the Brodiaea capitata and californica. I’d like to get them established back on my hot hillside as natives. I am wondering if they could complete with the wild rye and also if they are deer resistant?

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:28 am

Debra: Thanks for sharing. I’m not sure about your questions. I’ll forward them on to Annie’s. But just in case, you might want to visit their website or facebook page and ask them directly. They are very friendly and will definitely help you. Good luck in this drawing!

Gretchen Plummer April 7, 2011 at 10:10 pm

My most favorite plant is Ribes Sanguineum. Growing up in Inverness I remember it’s strong appealing scent as I would brush against it climbing on Mt Vision. While studying botany at Sonoma State I learned it’s genus and species while learning to key out plants from the Jepson. I have since planted it in my garden and those of friends and every spring enjoy the magic of it’s blossoms.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:26 am

Gretchen: Thanks for sharing your favorites, and good luck in this giveaway!

cindy April 7, 2011 at 10:23 pm

I am wanting the zalzuskya, “midnight candy’, ever since my friend grew it last year. It bloomed all winter, leaving the scent of vanilla cake batter near her front door. She even took it inside at night to put by the bed, just so she could smell it!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:25 am

Cindy: That’s hilarious, but I guess that smell is pretty tempting. Enjoy! And good luck in this giveaway.

Jinny Pearce April 7, 2011 at 10:29 pm

Right outside, by the doorstep or our new house, I put in a Ursina anthemoides, ‘Solar Fire’ which I got with the gift certificate my sister got me for Christmas. It is so triumphantly bright and cheerful! It is pure joy to see it.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:25 am

Jinny, It’s always nice to have a cheerful entrance to your home. Thanks for the plant tip, and good luck in this random drawing.

cathy gillette April 7, 2011 at 10:33 pm

currently, My favorite is the Minoan Lace flower. Planted one about two months ago, and it is big and blooming!!!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:24 am

Lovely, Cathy. Thanks so much for sharing and good luck!

Laurie (Fleurie) April 7, 2011 at 10:38 pm

I like the Polygonym orientale- “Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate”. It is a great re-seeder, but sadly, mine pooped out last year, and no seeds came up. When I use it in flower arrangements, its always a big hit.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:24 am

Laurie: I agree! My neighbor grew ‘Kiss Me Over the Garden Gate.” And it’s such a lovely, old-fashioned plant that you rarely see anymore. Too bad it didn’t reseed. It typically goes a bit crazy here — not that my neighbor minded. She loved it! Good luck in this giveaway.

Tara Gruber April 7, 2011 at 10:45 pm

I’m really excited about my Verbascum ‘Cotswold King.’ I had never mailordered plants before and I decided I just had to have it. As far as I can tell, Annie’s is the exclusive seller of this fine English Verbascum in the U.S. which makes it even more special. Mine is just getting ready to to bloom now and is covered with buttery yellow buds (so eager to see that first Yosemite Sam face when the buds open!). I find myself going out to admire it at every opportunity. I placed it in a choice spot – behind a white Prosperity rose and in front of a red Cramoisi Superieur rose. I’ve surrounded it with double salmon and purple single poppies (Lauren’s Grape) for a punch of color, Annie’s-style. This is hands-down my favorite plant in the garden and I’m proud to tell everyone that I mail-ordered it special from Annie’s 😀

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:23 am

Tara: Thanks for sharing. Your garden sounds fantastic and good luck with that verbascum — and this giveaway!

Leslie Word-Troxell April 7, 2011 at 10:49 pm

I’m in love with Annie’s Annuals. I lobe their collection of Hellebores, I started adding them to my garden about 5 years ago and I couldn’t be happier. They’re a great addition to my roses, foxgloves, forget-me-notes, and the other great items I’ve purchased from Annie”s…..some even from the Garden Show. My daughter and I are looking forward to the party this weekend Yay!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:20 am

Have fun at the party this weekend, Leslie. I’m a big fan of hellebores too. Good luck in this random drawing!

james campbell April 7, 2011 at 10:52 pm

calceolaria please!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:19 am

Thanks James. Good luck in this random drawing!

Mary Beth James-Thibodeaux April 7, 2011 at 10:54 pm

My current favorites (of the many that I have) are the cream cups and the california buttercup. The buttercup has lovely lacy leaves and tiny yellow buttercups. It disappears and comes back every year and looks lovely with my low growing purple ceanothus. The cream cups are an annual with 1″ cream colored cups on light green plants. I wish they would reseed but I don’t mind having a reason to go to Annie’s every year to get more.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:19 am

Mary Beth: That sounds just lovely. Enjoy your cream cups and buttercups. And good luck in this giveaway! Thanks for visiting.

Naomi :) April 7, 2011 at 10:55 pm

Annie’s Annuals Rock! :) I am in the process of “creating” my outdoor garden sanctuary after removing lots of weeds left behind by previous owner and ugly “junipers” ~ who plants junipers??? Not a true gardener, that is for certain! :) My garden could use some ANNIE’S! :) Color, color, color ~ Columbine, Clematis, Cosmos!. Oh boy, the list goes on… Love Love Love my Garden ~ it’s a work in progress with such reward in beauty to come! Will love it even more with some Annie’s Annual’s gracing my landscape…….. :) ~Bloom on! From, HappyGardenGirl in California :)

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:18 am

Naomi, You sound like a “Happy Garden Girl in California.” Keep enjoying the outdoors, and thanks for entering this random drawing! Good luck!

Jennifer April 7, 2011 at 10:56 pm

Snow-in-summer plants (Cerastium tomentosum) – is topping my long wish list…. I’ve tried before, but they got too wet…. I have a much better spot… under the roses… (which btw- UCBG also uses at a rose companion). Other faves baby blue eyes (Nemophila), & yellow toad flax. I got dry sun, shade & damp spots. What will survive it all is the constant quest…..:-)

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:17 am

Jennifer: I just planted some snow-in-summer too, and I’m adding more. Love that blue-green foliage. Love your other choices too. Good luck in this random drawing!

Karla B. April 7, 2011 at 11:05 pm

Ohhhh, I ♥ the selection of flowers Annie’s has. We live in a rural part of NE Washington where the landscape is primarily whatever grows wild along the hillsides: white achillea, toadflax (considered invasive but looks pretty..like yellow snapdragons), small purpler lupines, yellow balsamroot, mock oranges, assorted bunch grasses. They are pretty but I long for a conventional flower garden. So I don’t know which flowers I would choose. I’m not picky because at this moment…I don’t have ANY. I do love her choices of poppies, yarrow, lupine and columbine though. Is it wrong to want them all??? hee hee.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:16 am

Karla: It sounds lovely where you live. We can understand why you’d want to pick pretty much the entire catalog from Annies’s. How can one choose just one? Good luck in the giveaway.

Diane April 7, 2011 at 11:20 pm

Wow, how to choose???Columbines, geraniums, poppies, I love them all! Thanks for the chance to win. Have you announced winners for the other days?

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:15 am

Hi Diana: Good luck choosing your favorite. I know it’s hard. Many of the winners have been alerted. The remainder will be alerted in the next day, and all winners will be announced publicly after the entire promotion is over. Thanks for participating!

Bonnie Neilson Atkins April 7, 2011 at 11:27 pm

I would have to say Poppies…any poppy will do, but if I could have poppies that kept popping up all year round, I’d be simply delighted! I love the colour range and how cheerful they are. The poppy is my personal harbinger of spring, although daffodils come pretty close. Oh and I must put in a word for Daphne odorata…that delicious scent…need I say more?

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:14 am

Bonnie, I’ve heard such wonderful things about the fragrance of Daphne odorata. And who doesn’t love poppies. Thanks for sharing, and good luck!

Kelley Macdonald April 8, 2011 at 12:35 am

I have to say Mr. Happy is a favorite of mine! Always makes me laugh for it gives me a happy memory of my Mom. The last time my Mom visited before her death, she saw Mr. Happy at Annies and thought it was the funniest thing ever! She roared. Plus she loved it as a plant too! New Jersey had nothing like it! I got my obsession for plants from her so we had a special bond. We both never had enough! LOL

Mr. Happy will always have a home in my garden!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:13 am

Kelley: Thanks for sharing your stories with Mr. Happy. No worries, your comment made it in time. That’s Mountain Time on my site. Good luck!

shawn mullens April 8, 2011 at 12:57 am

how do you choose from 347 different flowers on my wishlist from Annie’s ? sigh…… Passiflora membranacea oh how I wait to you grow and show me those flowers. Too bad Seattle is so far away from Annie’s. I at least visit and dream at the website through out the long days of winter

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 6:11 am

Shawn, I agree! It’s hard to choose. Good luck

Michael Freitas April 8, 2011 at 9:06 am

Salvia Apiana “White Sage” is my favorite plant from Annie’s. It’s all over my yard (Sunset Zone 7, USDA Zone 9). Put them in the ground, water in, and walk away. White sage is simply the very best plant for that silvery look we all need for contrast and beauty around the garden. The flower spikes are just wonderful. I also grew them at our old house in Pacifica where they did just as well.

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 9:41 am

Hi Michael: Whenever I think of white sage, I think of California. Even though this giveaway is now over, thanks for sharing and hope to see you again.

Kat Gelles April 8, 2011 at 1:12 pm

Oh, I love the columbines – can’t tell which is my favorite – how can you choose between them? Oh, and of course, sages, and poppies, and – how can you ask for one when there are hundreds? Can’t have a garden with just one plant!!!!!

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 1:16 pm

Thanks for sharing, kat. This giveaway is closed, but we appreciate your comment.

Nancy Shiffman April 8, 2011 at 7:12 pm

Love your lime green and chocolate nicotianas together. Will be visiting next week-end from Pasadena(just can’t stay away).

Teresa O'Connor April 8, 2011 at 7:36 pm

Ooh, lime green and chocolate sounds delicious. The giveaway is now over, but thanks for your comment. Happy gardening.

marilyn wojcik April 9, 2011 at 11:40 am

I love my iris; it’s bright yellow and orange is the most unusual iris I have ever had. I share the pictures on facebook every year when they bloom. I love the name tag, wish I could find it again, but thanks, it’s one of my favorites.

Rachel April 9, 2011 at 11:15 pm

I love the Echinops ritro ruthenicus on Annie’s site because of the beautiful blue heads and their drought tolerance.
Can’t wait to go to day 2 of the Spring party at Annie’s tomorrow!

Tina Kozma April 11, 2011 at 6:50 am

so when do you announce the winners?

Holly Ward April 11, 2011 at 5:33 pm

I am so overwhelmed by the beauty I forget the names by the time I get to the submit area!

Holly Ward April 11, 2011 at 5:35 pm

Okay, yellow tufted poppies. Am going to place an order.

Deanne Green March 12, 2012 at 2:49 pm

I love the clarkias, the cosmos, agastache, and the selection of blue flowers she has. Its also worth the price to buy plants that self seed, especially the ones that are not native to my area. Heck, whats not to love about annies annuals!

Teresa O'Connor March 14, 2012 at 2:51 pm

Aren’t they wonderful, Deanne? Thanks for stopping by! Teresa
